Eliminating the Use of Solitary Confinement
for Children

The use of solitary confinement on children, of any duration, constitutes cruel, inhumane, and degrading treatment and/or punishment under human rights law.

Human rights observers have urged the U.S. to adopt policies that regulate the limited use of isolation or segregation for youth and eliminate the use of solitary confinement for children.
